Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

Community

ACE Week provides world-cultural experiences through hands-on activities and cultural experiences. Lunar New Year celebrations include storytelling, crafts, and performances. The school emphasizes an inclusive community that values integrity, respect, empathy, and equity, aligned with the IB framework that promotes intercultural understanding and a peaceful, collaborative global perspective.

Parent-Teacher Association

Each French International family is required to volunteer 20 hours per year. Volunteer hours are tracked through a Volunteer Log. Volunteer opportunities include Admissions Support, Annual Fund Representatives, Fête du Vin Committee, Gala Committee, Graduation Committees, Middle School Events, New Teacher Support, Parent Community-Building Committee, and Room/Grade Parents. There is a Parent Volunteer Background Check process. A Volunteer Interest Form is available to sign up, and the school notes volunteer grants programs (e.g., Intel & Nike) that may match donated volunteer hours.

French International School of Oregon is an independent school in Portland serving ages 2 to 14. It blends the International Baccalaureate framework (PYP and MYP) with a French curriculum in a language-immersion setting and is the only IB-authorized provider in Portland for preschool through eighth grade. The school is fully accredited by the French Ministry of Education and affiliated with AEFE and Mission Laïque Française. All teachers are native speakers, and English is integrated from preschool and gradually expanded from 2nd through 5th grade in line with Oregon's English Language Arts Standards. In Middle School, students can pursue immersion tracks in French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, or an English-focused track. The campus comprises 15 wooded acres and houses new STEAM spaces for hands-on learning; a gym supports middle school activities, and the Lower School library is on site. Extended Learning offers athletics, ACE Weeks, Afterschool Explorers, and Summer Programs.
