Academics

International School of Los Angeles – West Valley Campus teaches French Curriculum, IB (DP) for students aged 2 to 18.

Curriculum

West Valley Campus (Preschool–5th grade) follows the Preschool Curriculum Programme d'études de maternelle. Our early French curriculum emphasizes exploration and discovery through ateliers, designed for active, collaborative learning within a bicultural and bilingual context that adapts the French Ministry of Education framework. The program cultivates communication skills, physical and artistic development, and curiosity through hands-on projects and group work. In the early years, strong bilingual oral comprehension and expression in French and English are developed; by the end of kindergarten, students develop English reading skills and French writing abilities. Literature, mathematics, science, physical education, and art & music are integrated within units, including field trips to local museums such as LACMA and the Norton Simon.
Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The West Valley Campus implements a Positive Discipline Framework that emphasizes conflict resolution, respect, and a safe learning environment. Staff intervene promptly to prevent violence and harassment and to support students in resolving conflicts. The program integrates conflict‑resolution and social‑emotional skill development to promote respectful communication and empathy. The school prohibits harassment and bullying and provides a structured process for reporting and addressing incidents, with confidentiality maintained and updates shared with families as appropriate. The goal is to build resilient, caring learners who can navigate social challenges and collaborate effectively with peers.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The West Valley Campus supports students with disabilities and medical conditions as part of its inclusive approach. The campus upholds a nondiscrimination policy that protects disability rights. The school provides accommodations to students when needed and discusses these with teachers and families. When complex needs arise, the campus may involve social workers or medical professionals to address learning and well‑being. The campus emphasizes inclusion and access to education for all students.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The West Valley Campus uses a bilingual curriculum with instruction in English and French. Reading requirements include free reading in both languages each week to build vocabulary and spelling skills. English instruction begins in kindergarten and grows toward proficiency across the grades as language development is embedded in all subject areas. The program supports bilingual literacy and effective communication in both languages to prepare students for global study and collaboration.

Mental Wellbeing

Wellbeing is supported through the Positive Discipline Framework and conflict‑resolution education that promote emotional growth, respectful interactions, and a safe school climate. The campus responds to incidents affecting well‑being and may involve social workers or medical professionals when needed. The curriculum emphasizes resilience, empathy, and healthy social skills, with ongoing efforts to prevent harassment and bullying. Parents receive timely information about incidents and outcomes, and faculty work to maintain a supportive, inclusive learning environment.

Safeguarding

The West Valley Campus has an anti‑bullying and conflict‑resolution policy. Bullying is defined as a repeated, intentional act involving power imbalance, and incidents of harassment or discrimination are to be reported to the Campus Director in writing. The school acknowledges incidents within 24 hours and investigates all claims, with findings communicated to the families involved.
