Uruguayan American School was founded in Montevideo on April 14, 1958 by Uruguayans and U.S. citizens to promote intercultural understanding between Uruguay and the United States and to provide a U.S.-style education in Uruguay. Initially, the student body consisted mainly of U.S. citizens or Uruguayans whose parents chose this education. The school expanded its programs and grew over time. Today, more than half of the students come from countries other than the United States and Uruguay, with more than 35 nationalities represented among our students.
The UAS community embraces an international student body and active family involvement through regular events. The Parent Support Group coordinates Welcome New Family events, Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day, Thanksgiving Lunch, and other gatherings to foster connections among families and staff. The International Festival brings booths from over 20 countries for a celebration of culture, food, and diversity. The PSG also organizes a Flea Market and supports community service initiatives with local schools and charities such as SOS Fauna Marina, ReachingU, Madres de Cruz, and Fundación MIR.
The Parent Support Group (PSG) at UAS serves as a valuable community resource designed to foster collaboration, understanding, and support among parents. It provides a network where parents can share experiences, exchange insights, and assist one another in navigating life within an international school. Members can get involved as volunteers, room parents, grade-level boosters, or PSG committee chairs. The PSG organizes Welcome New Family Events, Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day, and the Thanksgiving Lunch to build community. Other annual events include the International Festival, with booths from more than 20 countries, and a Flea Market, while PSG-supported community service activities partner with local charities such as SOS Fauna Marina, ReachingU, Madres de Cruz, and Fundación MIR.
