Grundschule lessons run from 08:15 to 13:30 with six periods; breaks occur after the second period (09:45–10:05) and after the fifth period (11:40–11:55). The campus operates from 7:30 to 17:30, and the Secretariat is open 8:00–16:00.

The school has a dress code. We have the right to freely choose our clothing, provided it does not disturb others. In class, head coverings are not worn; underwear should be private and worn discreetly. Clothing should not display prints that glorify racism, sexism, drugs or violence. Shorts are allowed, but hot pants are not.

The canteen is operated by external catering firms Nigivia S.r.l. and Nicolai Ricevimenti S.r.l., and follows Italian Health Ministry guidelines. Canteen hours are arranged so that children in the kindergarten, primary and secondary sections can eat together with their peers. Enrollment is done directly with the canteen operator. A complete meal comprises a first and second course, plus fruit/dessert and water. A price list and menus are published; Menu 1 and Menu 2 rotate every four weeks; special menus and nutritional information are available.

The school is substantially funded by the Federal Republic of Germany and is supported by private involvement from parents represented in the DS Rom school association. The school has no shareholders or investors. The supervisory body is the association council, and the school's operations are governed by the association's statutes.

The Deutsche Schule Rom runs a continuous program from Nursery through Kindergarten and Grundschule to Gymnasium. Mehrsprachigkeit is a core feature; German and Italian are integrated from early grades, with German-language instruction in Kindergarten to prepare for Grundschule and a multilingual approach in Grundschule that links Italian and German through a shared learning framework and smaller class sizes. The Gymnasium comprises three years: Year 10 (Einführungsphase) and Years 11–12 (Qualifikationsphase). The Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) forms the upper-secondary diploma, with the final grade built from Bereich Q (course qualifications during the qualification phase) and Bereich A (the Abitur examinations), and the Italian maturità is earned alongside. The curriculum covers languages and subjects such as Deutsch, Italienisch, Englisch, Französisch, Latein, Mathematik, Biologie, Chemie, Physik and Informatik; Economics is taught in English, Philosophy/Filosofia is bilingual in Italian and German (10–11) and Italian History (Storia italiana) is offered, with additional Italian language courses. The DIA is European-oriented, supervised by KMK, and prepares students for university admission across Europe and beyond, with intercultural education and multilingualism emphasized.

Studien-/Berufsberatung provides guidance for study planning; 11th- and 12th-grade students receive personal support and participate in information evenings, university fairs, the geva test, and an internship. After this programme, students are admitted to universities worldwide, including Europe, Asia, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.

The Deutsche Schule Rom is open to students of all nationalities and admits children from age 2 years (25 months). Knowledge of German is not required for enrollment in the kindergarten. Guest attendance at the school is possible from 1 month. The school offers Open House and Open Day events to inform families about the program and facilities. Open House takes place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 10:00 to 13:00. Open Day events for the nursery and kindergarten are scheduled on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 14:00; Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 14:00; Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 14:00; and Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 14:00. If you cannot attend a scheduled event, an individual visit can be arranged.
