About international schools in Tanzania
IB international schools in Tanzania are concentrated in Dar es Salaam and in northern towns that serve the tourism and expatriate community, with a mix of small local campuses and larger long-established schools that offer international programmes. Many schools offer one or more IB programmes (Primary Years, Middle Years and the Diploma), often alongside British or other curricula; English is the usual language of instruction while Kiswahili is widely taught as a curriculum subject. Fees vary widely: community or newer schools can charge a few million Tanzanian shillings a year, while long-established international schools may charge in the tens of thousands of US dollars for upper secondary. Admissions normally follow a Northern-Hemisphere rhythm (late-August/September starts with a common January mid-year intake), so relocating families should plan for application windows, entrance assessments or English-language screening, and time for visa/residency paperwork.
