Through‑School / progression rates (example rates published for 2025/26 for pupils transferring from The Downs Malvern)
- A preferential through‑school fee scale is published for pupils progressing from The Downs Malvern under specified eligibility rules; published example termly rates for those arrangements (2025/26) are lower than standard rates (for example, Day Year 9: GBP 10,545 per term under the through‑school rate). These through‑school rates are published separately from the 2026/27 headline figures above.
Billing schedule and payment terms
- Fees are payable in advance and, for convenience, the school divides the school year into three equal termly instalments. Parents are contractually responsible for the full fees for the agreed notice period and for the boarding element of the final term where applicable.
- The school operates a Fees in Advance scheme (prepayment option). Advance lump‑sum payments into that scheme must be settled by bank transfer only and are subject to separate terms and conditions.
Boarding fees and overnight charges
- Full boarding charges are included in the termly boarding fees listed above. Fees for boarders vary by year group (see tuition fees section).
- Additional overnight charges for pupils who do not normally board:
- Overnight boarding for day pupils: GBP 102 per night (2026/27 published figure).
- Overnight boarding for day‑boarding pupils (additional nights): GBP 89 per night (2026/27 published figure).
- Exeat weekend charges vary and are published from a stated starting level (example: from GBP 336). Day‑board and day‑pupil overnight usage rules apply; unused included nights are not refundable.
- Day pupils' standard entitlement: the day fee includes a limited number of boarding nights per academic year (published as a fixed number of included nights); additional nights beyond included entitlement are charged at the overnight rate and long‑term patterns of overnight stays can lead to retrospective reclassification to day‑boarder or full boarder and corresponding charges.
Other costs and routinely charged extras
- Mandatory additional charges and items not included in termly fees include: uniform, books and stationery; material costs for Art/Ceramics/Photography/Design & Technology; Sixth Form Centre membership and certain course‑specific consumables. Public examination entry fees are charged per pupil and vary by programme.
- Indicative public exam costs (per pupil, ranges):
- GCSE: approximately GBP 370–GBP 870 (indicative range published; actual depends on subjects taken).
- A level: approximately GBP 295–GBP 615.
- International Baccalaureate: approximately GBP 785–GBP 1,170.
- Typical optional and charged items (examples and published per‑unit charges where given):
- Individual music lessons (30 minutes): GBP 38.50 per lesson.
- Speech and Drama individual (30 minutes): GBP 30.50 per lesson; shared lesson: GBP 25.00.
- Private tuition (50 minutes, includes EAL and Learning Enhancement): published per‑lesson scale from GBP 63.50 (one pupil) down to lower per‑pupil rates for group sessions.
Sibling discounts, fee remission and concessions
- Published sibling discounts: 5% discount for the second child and 10% for a third and subsequent child while siblings are concurrently at Malvern College or The Downs Malvern.
- HM Forces / Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA): eligible families are eligible for a significant fee remission under published rules; published guidance notes that parents eligible for CEA will pay a parental contribution equivalent to 10% of the gross full boarding fee. Eligibility is applied according to the published criteria.
Refunds and deposit treatment
- The registration fee is non‑refundable. The entrance (acceptance) fee deposit is payable on request and is refunded by way of a credit against the final account when the pupil leaves the school (i.e., repaid as a deduction from the final invoice).
- There are no refunds for unused included boarding nights for day boarders; separate rules apply to cancellations and withdrawal and to fees in lieu of notice — parents remain contractually liable according to the agreed notice provisions. Published terms make clear that fees will not be refunded for absence through sickness or for early release after public examinations in most circumstances.
Fee payment options and practical notes on making payments
- The Fees in Advance (prepayment) option requires payment by bank transfer only. Advance scheme terms set out accepted payment instruments for that product.
- Standard termly billing is organised on a termly basis and fees are payable in advance per term. Detailed payment instructions, accepted instruments and payment deadlines are issued on invoices and in the school's contractual documents to families at the point of offer and on subsequent invoices. Parents remain contractually responsible for ensuring fees are paid by the published due dates.
Refunds and notice obligations (summary)
- The acceptance deposit will normally be credited against the final account when a pupil leaves; other refund possibilities are governed by the school's terms and any specific scheme terms (for example refunds of unused portions of Fees in Advance are subject to the scheme's terms and any deductions for fees in lieu of notice). The school's contractual terms set out the notice period required to avoid liability for fees in lieu of notice. Published guidance states that fees are not normally refunded for sickness absence or early release after examinations.
Summary practical points for parents
- All headline tuition figures above are published as termly amounts; the school year is billed in three equal termly instalments and parents are contractually liable for fees as set out in the school's parent contract and scheme terms.
- Expect additional charges for specialist lessons, examination entries, certain materials and some activities; published per‑unit charges are available for lessons and some services. Sibling discounts and specific fee remissions (for eligible HM Forces families and through‑school progression) are applied according to published eligibility rules.
