Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

AMADEUS International School Vienna was founded in 2012 with fewer than 30 students in the Ignaz Semmelweis House. It joined the All-Steinway School classification and earned IB Diploma Programme accreditation, opening Bühler House to support growth. In 2016 it achieved IB Primary Years Programme and IB Middle Years Programme accreditations, becoming a full continuum IB school, and started Early Years for ages 3 to 6. In 2020 it gained IB Career-related Programme accreditation with a focus on music, opened Pfeiffer House, and launched AMADEUS Festival Vienna. By 2022–2023 the student body exceeded 450 students from more than 50 nationalities, and by 2023 enrollment reached about 500; the historic campus comprises six pavilions formerly part of the Semmelweis Clinic (built 1908–1910) and the Board of Trustees is led by Dr Wilson Goh and Mrs Karen Goh.

Community

AVCA stands for AMADEUS Vienna Community Association, a legally established not-for-profit entity and the community body for parents, students and staff. AVCA is led by an Executive Board elected at the General Assembly and coordinates Class Parent roles, Classlist communications and a range of community events to support student life. It funds and supports school activities such as AV Mile trophies, library book donations and the Careers Immersion Programme, and runs frequent coffee mornings and other gatherings to connect families. In June 2025 AVCA inaugurated The Secret Garden, a nature-focused space on campus, with on-campus wildlife enhancing the community environment.

Parent-Teacher Association

AVCA stands for AMADEUS Vienna Community Association, a legally established not-for-profit entity. All AMADEUS Vienna parents are invited to join, and AVCA is run by a parent-nominee council elected at the General Assembly. AVCA acts as a communication channel between parents and the school, supports school events, welcomes new families and fosters community. AVCA funds and sponsors activities such as AV Mile trophies, library book donations, the Careers Immersion Programme and a range of parent events including coffee mornings and wreath-decorating. Newly enrolled families are automatically members for the first year.
