Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School opened in fall 1971 as a coordinate school following major donations. One year later it became a coeducational day school for Grades 1–12. The outdoor education program and the social agencies program began in the 1970s, creating a family‑like environment. Advanced Placement courses were introduced and campus expansions added the Science Wing, the Arts Wing, the Sandy Heard Sports Hall, and the Outdoor Education Centre. The motto Nil Nisi Optimum began to be interpreted as “Nothing but your best,” and Head of School leadership included Mrs. Grant‑Watt's appointment in August 2018.
