The first German community in Concepción formed after the Franco–German War (1870–1871), numbering about 20 families including Gabler, Metzdorf, and Gesswein. In line with the German tradition of founding institutions, the German residents created a 'German Club' on February 3, 1872, which would not have its own premises until 1916. To provide schooling for their children, Heinrich Reinhold from Valdivia opened a school in his house at Tucapel No. 54; by March 1887 the school had moved to a house at the corner of San Martín and Castellón and counted 15 students. The school's educational initiative led to the creation of the Corporation of the German School; the first president, Dr. Oswald Aichel, served from 1887 to 1893, and by 1888 the Corporation had 40 members, 16 students, and 3 teachers; in 1890 girls were admitted for the first time, and by 1899 the Corporation obtained legal personality and became the official Corporación del Colegio Alemán de Concepción. In 2007, the first stone of the Colegio was laid, and an araucaria and an oak were planted as symbols of Chilean–German unity; the new facilities officially opened on October 11, 2008.
The school community emphasizes Chilean–German unity, demonstrated by the 2007 stone-laying ceremony when an araucaria and an oak were planted as symbols of unity, which accompany each generation of students. The site includes a Parents' Center (Centro de Padres) and a School for Parents (Escuela de Padres), showing ongoing parent involvement in the school community. The 'Nuestros Apoderados' section also signals active engagement by families within the school.
