Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

The school opened on September 1, 1999, following the merger of Stuttgart's public German school in the Sillenbuch district and the French school in Stuttgart. It has two sections: the German section (14 classes) and the French bilingual section (8 classes). The French section follows an adapted French program to teach German in a bilingual setting, with one third to half of lessons taught in German under the Baden-Württemberg program. The German section follows the Baden-Württemberg program and offers English or French as foreign languages.

Arts and Creative

Topic-based after-school activities are organized, designed, and supervised by educators and external partners. They cover five themes: Nature and World Discovery; You and Me; Knowledge and Technology; Music and Arts; and Sport and Movement. In CP, activities run by level; in CE1, CE2 and CM1 each student chooses among the available activities, with supervision by teachers and educators.

Cultural and Language

The school consists of two sections on one site: the German section and the French AEFE-connected section. In the German section, students can choose between English or French as a foreign language from the first grade, and the German school operates as a Modellschule under the Baden-Württemberg program, with possible deviations from state requirements (for example, French instruction may be 4 x 45 minutes per week rather than 2 x 45). The French section is bilingual (French and German) and follows both the French National Education program and the Baden-Württemberg program. Two languages – one common path.

Social and Hobbies

After-school programs and day-care are provided by the Stuttgarter Jugendhaus Gesellschaft (StJG). The midday break lasts one hour, with 30 minutes outdoors in the courtyard and 30 minutes for meals, scheduled by level between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Meal orders and registration are handled through Hofmanns Catering. The school also offers after-school activities that include physical activities and arts as part of the after-school program.

Community and Service

The school is part of the AEFE network and maintains a Parents Council and a Promotion Association. The Parents Council can be contacted at elternbeirat.dfgs@gmail.com, and the Promotion Association at foerderverein@dfgs-sillenbuch.de. The bilingual structure and cross-border cooperation foster a sense of community among families and staff.

Leadership and Professional

The school operates a Secretariat with separate German and French sections, each with its own contact details. The Parents Council coordinates with the School Council on governance, and the AEFE network underpins the school's educational mission. Instruction in the two languages is delivered by teachers from both the French and the Baden-Württemberg systems, reflecting the school's bilingual leadership and dual-program framework.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

The daytime schedule includes a midday break and after-school activities designed to support well-being, social development, and physical activity. The midday break combines social interaction with a supervised meal in the canteen. The after-school program emphasizes structured activities, including sport, arts, and other thematic offerings to promote healthy, active learning.

Ecole Franco-Allemande Stuttgart-Sillenbuch is a bilingual French-German primary school in Stuttgart, uniting two curricula on one campus. The German section follows the Baden-Württemberg program; from first grade pupils may choose English or French as a foreign language, and the Modellschule option allows extra French instruction beyond standard requirements. The French section is part of the AEFE network and combines the French National Education program with the Baden-Württemberg framework. The school aims to prepare pupils for a path leading to the ABI-BAC, with mastery of both languages and both systems. It is Stuttgart's largest elementary school, with 14 German classes and 8 French classes. Opened in 1999 after a merger between a German and a French school, the campus features a new building with a cafeteria, side buildings and a bicycle yard. A supervised morning, midday and after-school program supports families and offers topic-based activities, arts, sport and language clubs.
