The Deutsch-Französische Grundschule Stuttgart-Sillenbuch originated in 1999 as a result of a joint agreement between the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the City of Stuttgart, and the AEFE (Agence pour l'Enseignement Français à l'Etranger). This state treaty governs the merger and cooperation of the Sillenbuch elementary school with the former French private school Ecole Georges Cuvier. A fundamental principle of the merger is the coming together of German and French children who attend a common school; teachers of both nationalities form a single teaching staff. The French bilingual department is preceded by the “école maternelle,” where children are prepared for the bilingual system from preschool age. In this school year about 400 pupils attend the school, distributed across 17 classes: 9 classes in the German section and 8 classes in the French bilingual section.
The Franco-German elementary school Stuttgart-Sillenbuch brings German and French children together in one school with a bilingual staff. The French bilingual department is preceded by the preschool, preparing children for the bilingual system from an early age. The school hosts events and activities that foster Franco-German friendship and community life, including a Book Festival (Bücherfest / Fête du livre) and cross-language projects like Mixture franco-allemande, as well as various activities throughout the school year such as sport events and cultural exchanges. The school also participates in celebrations of Franco-German friendship and other community activities referenced in school life pages.
The Elternbeirat (parent council) represents the parents of the student body. In each class, the class Pflegschaft (parents' meeting) occurs at least once per half-year; the Pflegschaft consists of the parents of the students in the class, the class teacher(s), and all teachers teaching the class. The Pflegschaft elects a first and a second class parent representative; the first representative automatically becomes chair of the Pflegschaft. All class parent representatives together form the Elternbeirat, which also meets once per half-year and elects members to the Schulkonferenz (school council). Contact: elternbeirat.dfgs@gmail.com. The school also lists a Förderverein (supporting association) as part of its parent community.
Ecole Franco-Allemande Stuttgart-Sillenbuch is a bilingual French-German primary school in Stuttgart, uniting two curricula on one campus. The German section follows the Baden-Württemberg program; from first grade pupils may choose English or French as a foreign language, and the Modellschule option allows extra French instruction beyond standard requirements. The French section is part of the AEFE network and combines the French National Education program with the Baden-Württemberg framework. The school aims to prepare pupils for a path leading to the ABI-BAC, with mastery of both languages and both systems. It is Stuttgart's largest elementary school, with 14 German classes and 8 French classes. Opened in 1999 after a merger between a German and a French school, the campus features a new building with a cafeteria, side buildings and a bicycle yard. A supervised morning, midday and after-school program supports families and offers topic-based activities, arts, sport and language clubs.
