Facilities

Resources and spaces that support learning and development

Facilities Overview

In 2020, the LFA Hamburg opened its campus at Hartsprung in Hamburg-Lokstedt. A move to a new Altona campus near the Elbe, opposite the Königstraße S-Bahn station, is planned for late 2025. The central location will broaden recruitment from Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Meals are provided by Mammas Canteen (Altona) with Alsterfood; enrollment and automatic payment are available, and meals must be ordered in advance; weekly menus are posted. Lockers can be rented on site from AstraDirect. The CDI sits at the heart of the school, offering computers and a wide documentary collection including books, articles, encyclopedias and documentaries; it is used as a classroom by teachers and as a reading and project space, with regular author visits and writing workshops.

Sports Facilities

New sports facilities are part of the Struenseestraße campus in Altona. The new sports halls are open not only to schools but also to neighborhood associations, supporting community sports activities. The campus is designed as a living and learning space with proximity to the Elbe, reflecting the dynamic Altona neighborhood. The overall design includes dedicated PE spaces to support physical education and after-school sport programs.

Academic Facilities

The CDI (centre de documentation et d'information) is at the heart of the school. It provides computers and a core collection of books and articles for student research, along with dictionaries, atlases and documentaries. The CDI is also used as a classroom by teachers and as a reading and project space for students, who read comics, magazines, novels and press. The school includes media-education components in its program, with regular activities and resources for teaching media literacy.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Radio at the LFA: Students produce radio reports through classes, workshops and project weeks. Cine9ma au LFA: Film productions are created by middle- and high-school students, in German and French, with supervision by staff. DFG TV: Multimedia video production since 2022 for students of all levels, including script, camera, moderation and editing. The Lycée Franco-Allemand Hamburg (LFA Hamburg) is a Franco-German high school co-financed by France and Germany and part of the AEFE network. It serves pupils aged 10 to 18 and offers a bilingual curriculum that blends French and German educational traditions. The partner language is taught daily by native-speaking teachers, and English is introduced from CM2 with additional European languages available. From 4th grade, more subjects are taught jointly in both languages, and from 2nde German and French students study in mixed classes with about half the courses in each language. The school supports bilingual learning across subjects and collaboration across languages; the Franco-German Baccalaureate enables entry to higher education in both countries, and Erasmus+ exchanges are conducted with partner schools. The campus opened at Hartsprung in 2020, with a planned Altona campus near the Elbe in late 2025. Facilities include a central CDI library, a cafeteria, lockers, and new sports halls; media projects such as radio, cinema, and DFG TV are part of the curriculum. After-school care (GBS) operates on-site.
