Languages of instruction are English and German across Kindergarten, Primary, and Secondary. From Year 8, Spanish is offered as a major subject (Profilfach). Primary uses bilingual instruction with German- and English-speaking teachers and bilingual reading/writing curricula. Secondary supports bilingual education with English and German as languages of instruction, and aims for equivalent treatment of both languages in taught subjects.
English and German bilingual education is provided from Kindergarten through Secondary School. In Kindergarten, German- and English-speaking professionals communicate with children in their mother tongue, with German and English spoken roughly in equal measure throughout the day. The school maintains a bilingual instruction approach across Primary and Secondary levels, with English and German used as languages of instruction and interaction.
Language acquisition begins with an English/German bilingual kindergarten. The immersion method is used, with complete immersion in one language, enabling children to grow up naturally bilingual and to navigate both languages. In Primary School, each class has a German-speaking and an English-speaking teacher who alternate instruction, immersing students in a bilingual environment daily; mathematics, science and humanities are taught in both languages. In Secondary School, English and German are given equal importance as languages of instruction and interaction; each subject is usually taught in one language for a school year, with a strong emphasis on developing subject-specific terminology in both languages.
