Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Australian Independent (International) School - Indonesia was established in 1996. AIS operates Preschool to Year 12 across Jakarta and Bali, with campuses in Jakarta and Bali. Today more than 600 students are enrolled in Preschool to Year 12. The program provides a progression from Preschool through Primary (Foundation to Year 6) and High School (Years 7–10) and includes the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11–12. AIS Jakarta moved into its current Jakarta campus in 2021, and groundbreaking for the AIS Nusantara campus at Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) occurred on September 25, 2024, with the Indonesian President in attendance; the master development will include a new AIS campus, vocational and special education centres, and an Australian university.

Community

AIS has a connected school community. The philosophy and essence of community have underpinned AIS's growth, and in its early formative years AIS consisted of a handful of parents and teachers. This small, tight‑knit group has grown into the large and diverse AIS community today while retaining the same spirit. AIS also supports families relocating to Indonesia through its Parents & Friends Committee and Admissions team, and offers relocation guidance to families.

Parent-Teacher Association

The school has a Parents & Friends Association (P&F) that supports families as they navigate international school life. The P&F provides opportunities for all AIS parents to meet, participate in social events, and contribute to continual school improvement, strengthening the school‑home partnership. The P&F Committee represents parents and provides suggestions and feedback on school improvements and policies, and helps organise annual events such as Family Fun Day and Quiz Nights. Many AIS families form lifelong friendships through the P&F, and the association coordinates with school leaders to support the AIS community. AIS relocation support is also available through the P&F and Admissions team.
