The language of instruction at YIS is English. The curriculum also includes French, Spanish and Indonesian. Indonesian language education, including Bahasa Indonesia / Indonesian Studies, is integrated into the programs and offered to Indonesian students during regular school hours; these classes are mandatory for students whose parents are Indonesian nationals. Indonesian nationals are automatically registered for the ASPD; the results are not used for university applications and are not included in official YIS reports.
Yogyakarta Independent School (YIS) is a private international school offering the complete International Baccalaureate continuum for ages 3 to 18, including the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). The language of instruction is English, with French, Spanish and Indonesian integrated into the curriculum. Bahasa Indonesia/Indonesian Studies, Agama and Pancasila are taught for Indonesian students during regular school hours. YIS is the only international school in Yogyakarta authorized to deliver the full IB program. The school traces its origins to 1989 and is operated by the Yogyakarta Foundation for International Education (YPIY), a non-profit foundation. The 6.5-hectare campus in Sinduadi features botanical gardens, an Olympic-size outdoor sport field, an athletic running track, and modern classrooms, with safety-minded grounds and a guarded front gate. The YIS Parents Association (YISPA) coordinates excursions and events, while a Leadership Team and IB Coordinators guide curriculum development for students worldwide.
