Let the school know you're thinking of applying — they can share their prerequisites and help you through the process.
It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
The name 'El Camino' draws inspiration from a line in a poem by Antonio Machado: 'Walk where there is no road, for you create the road by going.' The school was founded in 1983 by the Diaz Rivera, Coppola, and Parr families, with Manuel Sierra Rosales as the first director and a team of six educators, starting with fewer than 10 students. The middle school was established on September 22, 1986, and the first high school opened in September 1989, duly registered with SEP. From 1999 to 2008, new educational programs were designed and integrated with Almaguer Asesores to strengthen bilingualism, leadership development, and social responsibility. In 2014, the IB Diploma Program was authorized; in 2017, the IB Primary Years Program accreditation followed; on March 1, 2023, Colegio El Camino became an IB Continuum School with authorization for the Middle Years Program; the 40th anniversary was celebrated on October 4, 2023.
Colegio El Camino is an IB bilingual private school in Cabo San Lucas. It is a non-profit institution governed by a board of governors including members from founding families and esteemed community leaders, and it is one of only 25 schools in Mexico offering the full IB Continuum program. The school has a diverse student body of about 380 students representing more than 20 nationalities. It is accredited by Cognia and the IB Organization, and is among 41 Cognia-accredited schools in Mexico and 117 IB World Schools in Mexico.
The Parents Society is a vital partner in school improvement projects, working with the College, the Student Council, and the staff. In 2016–2018, it donated resources including 30,000 pesos to library shelves, roofing for the primary playground and for the secondary/high school areas, two ping pong tables, 8,447 pesos to the future Center of Arts, and 4,538 pesos for mathematics materials. A new Parents Society began for 2018–2020, with officers: President Dulce Karina Garnica Gomez, Vice President Ivonne Villalpando Cortes, Treasurer Adriana Aguilar, and Secretary Suhey Aldaba Nevarez.
Colégio El Camino is a private, coeducational day school in Mexico offering the International Baccalaureate continuum (PYP, MYP, DP) along with a bespoke curriculum. The school serves preschool through high school and culminates in the Diploma Programme. The PYP is bilingual, with 50% instruction in Spanish and 50% in English, using six transdisciplinary units of inquiry and integrated specialists in Physical Education, Music, Visual Arts, and Technology. The MYP, authorized in March 2023 for grades 7–9, emphasizes inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary study and Approaches to Learning, with courses offered in both languages. The DP, implemented since 2016, offers six subject groups with Standard or Higher Level courses and core components—Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essays, and CAS—alongside university guidance for Mexico and abroad. Facilities include classrooms, a library, high-speed internet, interactive whiteboards, an indoor shaded soccer field, a shaded outdoor court, and two playgrounds; a future Art and Athletic Center is planned.
