The foundation of the Elementary curriculum is the IB Primary Years Program (PYP), a concept-based framework that encourages students to ask questions and seek answers through inquiry. The PYP uses six transdisciplinary themes to guide learning: Who We Are; Where We Are in Place and Time; How We Express Ourselves; How the World Works; How We Organize Ourselves; Sharing Our Planet. Learning is collaborative, and the PYP Exhibition at the end of fifth grade showcases students' research. All Elementary students develop English language proficiency through a 100% bilingual curriculum, with equal time in English and Spanish.
Art and culture have a special place at Lomas Hill, with daily art, music, and theater lessons in Elementary and continued arts opportunities in Middle School. In addition to the official schedule, After-School offers additional artistic options, including dance. The ERIC program reinforces literacy and language development through reading, library access and book fairs. This arts program nurtures imagination and self-expression.
Kindergarten provides an English immersion experience where teachers speak and read in English. All Elementary students develop English language proficiency through a 100% bilingual curriculum with equal time in English and Spanish. Middle School includes English, Spanish, and French, broadening linguistic abilities. There is emphasis on cultural awareness and global perspectives.
After-School workshops help children develop key skills as part of their integral development. Programs include sports such as football, karate, taekwondo, dance, and swimming, with basketball and triathlon also offered for Elementary and Middle School. Lego, Robotics, Art, Music, Chess, and Photography are available. All programs are taught by qualified professionals in partnership with Nelson Vargas.
Service learning is a key component of Middle School; all Middle School students participate in community service initiatives. In ninth grade, students complete a community project individually or with a small group. The skills developed include planning, taking action, and reflecting on the impact of the project. The school community—students, parents, teachers, and staff—collaborates to realize shared goals and celebrate learning together.
Changemakers is part of the Community offerings, focusing on leadership and social responsibility. School for Parents provides programs to engage families in development, and Job Opportunities are listed for the campus. The school supports the development of student leadership and professional skills through these offerings.
Regular physical education takes place in the gym or on sports fields, with classes covering nutrition, healthy lifestyles, and personal care. After-School programs include sports such as football, karate, taekwondo, dance, and swimming, with basketball and triathlon for younger students. Complementary activities supplement physical education with arts, robotics, and other activities to support well-being and teamwork.
