The Swiss School of Mexico began with the Swiss community arriving in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution and was established as the first Swiss School of Mexico on August 5, 1964, opening in February 1965 with 135 students from kindergarten through early primary. From a rented house on Avenida Eugenia, demand led to the construction of what is now the CDMX campus in 1971. In 1992 the Cuernavaca campus opened, and in 2007 the Querétaro campus followed. German, Spanish, English, French and Mandarin Chinese are taught. Since 2010 the school has offered the International Baccalaureate program, with the previous year's Diploma awarded, and annual cultural celebrations such as Laternenfest, Fastnacht, Schwimmfest, Sportag and the Navidad Bazaar organized by the Swiss Ladies (Damas Suizas).
The school's ideal pedagogy provides a high-level education within a European system. The community is oriented around honesty, freedom, and responsibility, with values such as respect for people, materials, and facilities; leadership with an international mindset; and emphasis on order, cleanliness, punctuality, diligence, and perseverance. The relationships among students, families, and faculty are based on mutual trust, with transparent academic information shared with parents. Faculty collaborate in ongoing professional development to uphold the school's mission.
