SEK Guadalajara is part of the SEK International Institution, a private educational institution with more than 134 years of service to education. SEK Guadalajara opened in 2005. The SEK International Institution was established with management independence from the old schools in Madrid in 1989. In 2017, the SEK International Institution celebrated its 125th anniversary. In 2018, SEK Austral opened.
The school emphasizes family involvement through the Parent Commission and a program of parent activities. It promotes parent participation in school life via tutorials, open days, and committees such as Family Sport, International, and Professional Committees. Open Days invite families to visit and observe a normal school day, with interviews coordinated through the Head of Admissions. Publications and communications include an Information Booklet, leaflets on Didactic Activities and Visits, NotiSEK Mexico School Magazine, and the SEK International Institution Magazine.
The Parents section centers on the Parent Commission as the formal body for family participation. Parent Commission supports the Tutorial Interview/Visit System, coordinated by the form teacher, the psychologist, and the Heads of Infant, Primary, and Secondary Studies, along with the Head of Admissions. Open Days invite families to observe a school day and engage with staff. Families may join committees such as the Family Sport Committee, International Committee, and Professional Committee. Instituto Internacional SEK Guadalajara is a private educational institution offering the IB Diploma Programme and part of the SEK International Institution, a network with over 134 years of service. The Guadalajara campus sits in a nature-rich setting and features dynamic classrooms designed for play, discovery and exploration, plus an orchard for environmental education. The school places a strong emphasis on English as a foundational axis, with a fully bilingual kindergarten and English-led instruction across levels, complemented by official English and French certifications. The curriculum progresses from Preschool Level through General Basic Level to General Middle Level, using SEK methodologies to support development and language proficiency in two native languages plus a second language. Core subjects include Spanish, Mathematics, Universal History, Civics, Geography, Biology and introductory studies in Biology, Physics and Chemistry; English focuses on grammar and conversation. Extracurriculars run 8:00–16:00 and include sports, music, robotics, public speaking and arts programs.
