Guadalaviar was founded in 1959 by a group of families. From its beginnings, it received the impetus of Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, founder of Opus Dei. It serves Early Childhood through Secondary and Baccalaureate and has nearly 70 years of history in Valencia.
Guadalaviar participates in Open House Valencia, joining the festival's building catalog as the only school. Open House Valencia is an international architecture festival that brings architecture, design and culture to the public through guided visits, urban routes, round-table discussions, contests and other activities. The school organizes Jornada Matemática Valencia (Mathematics Day). Guadalaviar hosts the Christmas Fair, organized by the Guadalaviar Alumni Association.
AMPA Guadalaviar launched the Cuenta Conmigo volunteer project in 2022. The project includes food and goods collection campaigns, a Christmas campaign, Armario Solidario (clothes bank), workshops for socio-educational intervention with women in vulnerable situations, and accompaniment of children in foster centers and of elderly people. To participate, families fill out a form and register as volunteers on the Esycu platform. Campaigns include Provida and Monkole and Christmas calendar sales for fundraising.

It participates in the Eduspark reading program and German is offered in the upper years. Facilities include a year-round pool, three basketball courts, two gyms, science labs, ICT suites, a large library and an urban garden.
