The school was founded in 1973 by Mrs Mary Blakstad as Morna Valley School, with pottery and Chinese calligraphy in the curriculum. Mary Blakstad retired in the early 1980s; John and Helen Tunks took over when enrolment was about ninety. In 1992 Helen Davenport bought the school, increasing enrolment to around 160 and moving to the current Santa Gertrudis site on purpose-built premises. The new campus opened in September 2004 and the school was renamed Morna International College; in 2007 new UK owners invested further in staff, resources and site development. It is an accredited Cambridge University and Edexcel examination centre, with over 500 pupils progressing to A Levels and universities worldwide.
The school sits in the middle of Ibiza, near the village of Santa Gertrudis, on a large campus with ample indoor and outdoor spaces. The school has students aged 3 to 18 from over 20 nationalities, around 620 pupils, and just over 80 full-time equivalent staff, giving a staff-to-pupil ratio of 1:7. The school participates in community events such as Morna's Santa Eulalia Run, where it has had strong participation, and the primary choir has performed at local events to raise funds for music education projects.
