It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
Founded in 1977 with 178 students under the first director Manuel Romero Mengotti, the school grew to 428 in 1978-1979 and 1,069 by 1990-1991. Music studies became official in 1982, and about 55% of students in those ages pursued formal music education; in 1986 the school became Galicia's first International Baccalaureate institution and the fourth in Spain to join IB. In the 1990s the school pursued higher-education partnerships, opening CESUGA in 1995-1996 as a private university center adjacent to the main building, signing a contract with University College Dublin and National University of Ireland in 1994, and becoming a founder member of Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio in 1993, while reducing class sizes from 40 to 25-35 starting in 1991-1992 due to LOGSE. Beginning in 2015 the International Baccalaureate was implemented (PEP and PAI), with 2018 authorization for the Middle Years Programme and 2019 authorization for the Primary Years Programme. In 2020 a healthy kitchen was introduced, in 2023 Jorge Muiños Guereca became Director, and in 2024 the school launched a Re-Evolution to upgrade its educational model and facilities.
Sports, culture, and music are integrated into the school day to help each student discover and develop their own talents, with after-school training available. The Conservatorio Profesional de Música offers official classes in 17 instruments integrated into the school day, including electric guitar, percussion, piano, violin, and clarinet. Students have access to swimming, athletics, hockey, synchronized swimming, judo, gymnastics, and badminton. Up to ten artistic and cultural activities are offered, such as dance-jazz, classical ballet, theatre, choir, ceramics, orchestra, and big-band.
The Asociación de Madres y Padres de Alumnos (AMPA) is the school's PTA. The AMPA annual fee is 90€ per family and is billed in February or March as a single family invoice. The AMPA participates in the various events organized by the school. The AMPA funds a Social Fund from 50% of the annual fee to cover half the cost of schooling in the event of a parent's death, with the Colegio Obradoiro covering the remaining 50% until studies are completed. The AMPA also supports activities and collaborations as part of its role in the school community.
