Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school centers on the learner with a personalized, student‑driven approach that develops critical, innovative, and creative thinking and prepares students for the world beyond the classroom. Social and emotional development is core to the education, and the emotional well‑being of students is actively cared for. Students gain communication and technology tools and are taught to work in teams, challenge ideas, and persevere to solve problems, expanding their global outlook and commitment to caring for the planet. The school operates with a values framework that includes Inquirers, Courageous, International‑minded, Communicators, Knowledgeable and Informed, Principled, Reflective, Balanced, Caring, and Thinkers, and it uses active learning to accommodate different styles. Houses Costa, Goya, and Shakespeare foster community and collaboration as part of the school culture.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school considers each student's personal characteristics, conduct and reactions, and any related conditions or history in relation to convivencia and socialization to determine appropriate support. This supports an inclusive approach by adapting to different learning styles and needs. The principles of inclusion emphasize normalizing convivencia in the classroom and school with respect, adaptation support, and help for expressing vulnerabilities. The school relies on mediation and discipline processes, with support from advisory bodies, to address complex convivencia situations and to guide staff, families, and students.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Classes are taught in English across the school, with English education comprising over 10,150 hours and 90% of Early Years classes conducted in English, taught by native‑speaking teachers. The school offers bilingual language provision, with French and German as additional languages, along with immersion programs and exchanges with the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It is a Cambridge English‑preparation center, offering on‑site examinations from Starters up to C2 across the school years, reinforcing English language development and assessment. English instruction is embedded from the earliest stages, building a strong linguistic foundation for later study.

Mental Wellbeing

Emotional well‑being is a key element of the school's culture, with a focus on nurturing social and emotional competencies and fostering a sense of belonging. The environment supports empathy, collaboration, and respectful interactions, rooted in a values‑driven approach. The school recognizes and accommodates different learning styles and supports personal growth through active, inquiry‑based learning and close family involvement. A convivencia framework guides social dynamics and emphasizes inclusive, supportive relationships among students, staff, and families, contributing to students' mental well‑being.

Safeguarding

The school promotes an inclusive, respectful community and implements a Plan de convivencia to support safe and positive convivencia. A Commission of Discipline and Mediation, along with advisory bodies, provides oversight and support to staff, families, and students in safeguarding and responding to complex situations, ensuring a safe school environment.
