Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school fosters a safe, belonging, and respectful learning environment where students feel secure and have the right to learn and flourish. Assemblies promote a strong sense of community and reinforce identity and innovation within the IB learner profile. A School Counselor and a Student Support Team provide ongoing support for student well‑being, with a dedicated counseling office and access to counseling services. The school maintains safeguarding policies to protect students and operates a Student Protection Team to respond to concerns. Overall, the school emphasizes a values‑based approach and community‑building as integral to student social and emotional development.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school provides support for Students with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) through a Documented Learning Plan (DLP) or an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). An Inclusion Department identifies and supports ALN, with progress reviewed by the Inclusion Department and the Student Behavior Management Team. Accommodations for ALN include early dismissal when medically or therapeutically needed, supported by documentation and a transition plan toward full‑time attendance. The Inclusion Department coordinates with families and external professionals as required. The Student Support Team and School Counselor coordinate individualized support for ALN students.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The Language Policy requires 70 percent English instruction and 30 percent Modern Standard Arabic, and the school encourages biliteracy in English and Arabic. The Primary Years Programme provides English Language Learner (ELL) support for students with limited English proficiency. ELL performance is regularly monitored through classroom assessments and external measures. Instructional practices include language accommodations, use of students' preferred languages where appropriate, and supportive scaffolding to aid understanding.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is supported through a School Counselor and a Student Support Team, with a dedicated Counseling Office serving relevant campuses. The Inclusion Department coordinates mental health and emotional regulation supports as part of ALN provisions. The school provides access to on‑site nursing and health resources to support overall wellbeing, alongside attendance and safeguarding practices that promote student wellness and safety.

Safeguarding

The Emirates National Schools have a Student Protection Policy addressing protection from exploitation, abuse, violence, and harm. The policy requires immediate reporting of concerns to school leadership and appropriate authorities. A Campus Student Protection Team responds to safeguarding concerns and coordinates actions with relevant bodies as needed. Safeguarding protocols extend to transport, school activities, and daily operations to ensure student safety and wellbeing.
