Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

The school offers opportunities for intellectual enrichment through competitions. Mathematics competitions include Mini-Känguru and Känguru der Mathematik, with school-level and regional rounds. Geography competitions include Diercke WISSEN, with students achieving recognition at school level. Translation-related language challenges and literary projects form part of the wider intellectual enrichment program.

Arts and Creative

Arts & Music provide artistic and musical experiences. Pupils express creativity in the modern art rooms; older pupils organize art exhibitions and musical evenings. The school participates in local and regional art competitions and in music competitions such as Jugend musiziert, with student performances across school events.

Cultural and Language

German traditions are maintained and host country customs are celebrated. German festivals such as Oktoberfest, the Christmas market, and Summer Fest reflect the international composition of the school community and foster a shared cultural life.

Social and Hobbies

The afternoon programme offers clubs in sports, creativity, school life, media, technology, and natural sciences, with private music lessons by arrangement. Clubs from year 8 allow students to pursue individual interests, including popular activities like an instrument carousel and team-based sports.

Community and Service

Friends of Douglas House is the official school fundraising and support association that backs cultural, scientific, linguistic and sporting projects. The Friends organise celebrations and events to unite the school community, and events such as Oktoberfest, the Christmas market and the summer fair draw the wider German-speaking community into school life.

Leadership and Professional

The school provides studies and career advice to accompany students on their university and career journeys. Alumni insights and leaver destination information are available, illustrating post-school pathways for graduates and supporting ongoing guidance for students.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

A wide-ranging sports programme includes lessons, clubs and team training, with participation in ISSA tournaments for older pupils. The PE curriculum emphasizes teamwork, health, and varied forms of exercise, while the cafeteria offers healthy meals and structured lunch times to support daily wellbeing.

Deutsche Schule London is a German Auslandsschule in London, recognised by German Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen. The school provides continuous education from Kindergarten through Abitur or International Baccalaureate, for pupils aged 3 to 18. German curriculum has been expanded to include IB and elements from English system, enabling pupils to graduate with German International Abitur (DIA) and, from 2023/24, Fachhochschulreife (FHS). In upper secondary (11–12) students may pursue a dual qualification with DIA and IB or complete the DIA with IB as a course, under KMK guidelines. Languages taught include English, French and Spanish, with bilingual subjects to support multilingualism. The school sits on a green site between Richmond Park and the Thames, with Sudbrook Kinderhaus and main campus, libraries and study facilities, a modern sports hall and a new Multi Games Arena (MUGA) opened in 2024. After-school activities, music and arts programs, and community events complete the offering.
