Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

La Petite Ecole Bilingue Kentish Town is an independent, co-educational day school for pupils aged 3 to 11 located in Kentish Town, London. It is part of a group of three schools, two in London and one in Paris. The Kentish Town campus was opened by the Proprietor in its current building in 2012. The headteacher has served since September 2022. The school follows the National Curriculum of England and the French Education Nationale Programme with equal time given to lessons in French and English.

Community

The school has an international community, with almost all pupils from international families and many bilingual from birth. Pupils celebrate festivals and special days and are exposed to different faiths and cultural differences such as Hanukkah, Ramadan and Sikhism to develop empathy. Regular opportunities for the whole school to gather promote the school values of caring for one another, and behaviour is generally good, supported by pastoral care and safeguarding. The school describes its community as inclusive, with pupils taught to value diversity and to contribute to society.

Located in Kentish Town, La Petite Ecole Bilingue Kentish Town is a bilingual private primary school for ages 3 to 10. It offers a hybrid curriculum: the National Curriculum of England and the Education Nationale French programme, with English and French taught on parity. Two pedagogic coordinators ensure coherence between the two frameworks, and year groups run small, around 20 pupils. Learning is anchored in cross-curricular projects and project-based teaching, with school outings to enrich understanding. The school day runs from 8:25 to 16:00, with shorter Wednesday hours and a nap in Nursery. Language of instruction alternates every half day, embedding language learning in daily activity. Extracurriculars include PE on Mondays and Thursdays, Choir on Tuesdays, and Coding on Thursdays; after-school care 16:00-18:30 and a weekly Wednesday Club (limited to 12). The school is part of a small three-school group (London and Paris) and is not AEFE-affiliated.
