The school offers the International Baccalaureate Programme across the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). The school is a fully accredited IB World School providing education for students aged 4 to 18 in Hanoi. The IB Programme applies a broad, balanced, international education with an emphasis on developing the whole person. Innovation integrates STEAM across the IB continuum, connecting research and creativity through PYP, MYP, and DP.
The Arts are a central part of HIS and are described as a powerful vehicle to affirm identity, develop self-esteem, and build a sense of community. The school provides pathways in Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts through the MYP and offers a range of opportunities including After-School Instrument Lessons, Backstage Club, Concert Band, and Dance Club. The Drama and Visual Arts components are highlighted within the Diploma Programme, with theatre performances and visual arts exhibitions, and there are MYP Arts Exhibitions, an Orchestra, and student-run music ensembles. The MYP Arts Pathways include Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts.
Intercultural understanding and multilingualism are valued as part of HIS's IB programs, supported by the CAS and SA components. The MYP Service as Action program engages students in principled action across local and global communities, fostering international mindedness. The Diploma Programme Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) reinforces service, action, and personal growth as part of the graduation requirements, with emphasis on intercultural understanding and open-minded attitudes.
Co-Curricular Programme (CCP) runs after school every day across all programs, offering activities in music, sports, arts, science, and technology. Timetables and class options are shared with parents at the start of each season, and the 2025/26 CCP operates in three seasons. The HIS Student Council includes elected Elementary and Secondary representatives who liaise with staff and organize events such as social activities and charity initiatives. Clubs and Committees further enrich student life with student-led activities and events.
Service Learning is a core element of HIS's IB offerings. In MYP, Service as Action enables students to engage in principled action across local and global communities, with progress documented and reflected on ManageBac. In the DP, Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) connects service with action and personal growth as part of graduation requirements, with an emphasis on intercultural understanding and global citizenship.
The HIS Student Council comprises elected students in both Elementary and Secondary who serve as a liaison between students, teachers, and the PTA. In the High School, the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Director of PR oversee school spirit, organize events such as proms and spirit week, and help raise funds for charity. In the Middle School, leadership roles liaise with other sections to organize school events, while the Elementary StuCo runs events for younger students.
The school maintains a balanced after-school athletics program to promote well-being and balance in life, with sport playing a core role in the community. HIS participates in local and regional associations, including HAC and MRISA, to support competitions and exchanges. Facilities include stadiums, swimming pools, tennis courts, taekwondo facilities, badminton courts, and outdoor parks to support a healthy lifestyle and diverse physical education. PSPE and MYP/DP sports programs emphasize well-being, physical development, and health literacy.
Hanoi International School (HIS) is an English-medium, co-educational IB World School for students aged 4–18 in Ba Đình District, Hanoi. The full IB continuum—PYP, MYP, and DP—frames learning across subjects and phases. Campus life features strong arts offerings (Music, Theatre, Visual Art) and sports with fixtures through the Mekong River International Schools Association (MRISA). Daily Co-Curricular Programme (CCP) activities run after school, with an additional 4:00 pm bus on CCP days. Student support includes EAL delivered through co-planning and in-class small-group work, and a published Child Protection programme with age-appropriate assemblies.
