The Wingate School runs a School of Character that embeds virtues and values into daily learning from kindergarten onward, fostering integrity, resilience, and social responsibility. English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The Wingate School delivers a British international education in English for students aged 3 to 18. Core subjects are taught in English by expert, native English-speaking teachers across all key stages. Spanish-language subjects are taught under the SEP programme to support bilingual proficiency. Admissions

The Wingate School welcomes applications from students of all backgrounds who fulfil our academic profile and contribute to the school ethos and community. It is a Cambridge International School and an authorised International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. The curriculum follows a structured progression from the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) through Lower Cambridge, IGCSE, and the IB Diploma Programme. The IB Diploma Programme is taught in English by highly qualified teachers, and a pathway to the IB Bilingual Diploma is available through Spanish as a language option. Main classroom teachers are native English speakers. The school offers online and flexible admissions processes as well as transition support for families relocating to Mexico City. Information sessions for the 2023-2024 Academic year were held on October 8, November 26, and January 28. The admissions process consists of an interview with the parents and an evaluation of the pupil. House System

The school has a four-house system: Aztec, Maya, Olmec and Toltec. Each House has its own colour and three personal characteristics; House Points are awarded for effort, achievement, IPC personal goals and IB Learner Profile attributes, and for House competitions and charitable collections. The House system is led by Head Girl and Head Boy (Grade 12) with a House Captain and Vice-Captains; older students mentor younger students.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school provides Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in Early Years, teaching skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, friendship skills and problem-solving.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school offers English Language Support (EAL). Children arriving with little or no English receive after-school tutoring; in the classroom, teachers use strategies for English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners in every lesson. All teachers are given training about teaching EAL learners at the beginning of every year. In Early Years, children learn in English for 80% of the day.

Mental Wellbeing

Wellbeing is central to Winpenny's philosophy; the wellbeing of each child is crucial to their success. The school supports mental wellbeing through its SEL programme and via Circle Around the Child, which includes School Counsellors, Heads of School and Deputy Heads who monitor progress.

Safeguarding

Circle Around the Child is the group of adults responsible for ensuring that all children thrive academically, socially and emotionally. The team includes School Counsellors, Heads of School and Deputy Heads; they hold weekly meetings to track every child's progress. Every child's progress is reviewed at least three times a year and parents can arrange appointments to discuss concerns.

Admissions

Admissions are open throughout the year depending on availability.

Mexico-based families:
1. Contact us for information about fees and to book a tour. This provides fee information and the opportunity to schedule a tour. It begins the admissions process.
2. Make an appointment for your child's evaluation. The appointment sets the time for the evaluation and advances the process.
3. Submit the required documentation to our Director of Admissions. The required documentation includes a copy of your child's transcript and his/her most recent grades, a letter of good behaviour from the current school, and a completed recommendation form sent directly from your current school.
4. Your child will complete his/her evaluation in school. The evaluation is conducted at Winpenny School.
5. You will receive feedback of the evaluation within five working days. If a space is offered, the registration fee will need to be paid within a week.

Placement: Children will be placed based on their age on 31st December of the year when they enter school. For example, a child who would have their 6th birthday in December 2019 would be able to start Grade 1 in August 2019. If appropriate, prior schooling will be taken into consideration.

Overseas families:

2. Provide contact details of the Head of School at your child's current school.
3. Submit the required documentation to our Director of Admissions.
