Founded in 1979 by a group of German and Swiss families living in Guadalajara. In 2009, the German government designated the school as an Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule (German School of Excellence), a status reaffirmed on October 3, 2014 after inspection by the German Ministry of Education. The school's founding was driven by the enthusiasm and effort of parents seeking a better educational option for their children, not by waves of German migration. At that time, about 200 families spoke German at home, and many had learned German at Colegio Humboldt in Mexico City before relocating to Guadalajara.
