Winpenny first opened its doors in September 1992 in a four-bedroom house in Calle de Pedregal, Lomas de Virreyes. Miss Marian Winpenny, originally from Yorkshire, England, arrived in Mexico in 1969 and co-founded the school with her eldest son Melvyn T. Winpenny, starting with five children. The Cuajimalpa campus opened in August 2004, and Secondary was added in August 2008. Today the school has over 500 students from Kinder 1 to Grade 12 and more than 60 teachers recruited internationally from England, the USA, Europe and Latin America. The school is governed by a Board of Directors and the founders.
Winpenny emphasizes clear communication between parents and the school to strengthen the community and support student development. Tools include a weekly parent circular, a termly school calendar, an online payments portal, and an online admissions portal. There is regular contact with volunteer Room Parents, termly Parent Conferences with teachers, and termly progress reports. The parent portal offers features such as classroom “Chatter,” event information, school news, and online payments.
